On the final day of the Global Fintech Fest (GFF) 2024, Google Pay announced the introduction of six new features set to enhance user experience and expand the app’s capabilities. These features, expected to roll out later this year, include UPI Circle on Google Pay, UPI Vouchers (eRupi), ClickPay QR scan for bill payments, prepaid utilities payment, Tap & Pay with RuPay cards, and Autopay for UPI Lite.
The UPI Circle on Google Pay feature is designed to simplify digital payments by allowing users to make transactions without linking their own bank accounts. This feature offers two options: partial delegation and full delegation. In partial delegation, users maintain control by approving each payment request made by a secondary user. In full delegation, users can set a monthly limit of up to Rs 15,000, enabling secondary users to make payments independently within this limit.
UPI Vouchers, another highlight, allows users to make digital payments through prepaid vouchers linked to their mobile numbers. These vouchers can be used on any UPI-supported app, including Google Pay, without the need to link a bank account. Initially introduced to facilitate COVID-19 vaccination payments, UPI Vouchers have now evolved into a versatile payment solution applicable across various sectors. This feature is a result of Google Pay’s collaboration with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and the Department of Finance.
To make online bill payments more convenient and secure, Google Pay, in partnership with NPCI Bharat BillPay, has introduced ClickPay QR. This feature allows users to pay bills by scanning a ClickPay QR code with the familiar QR scanner on the Google Pay app, eliminating the need to remember bill account details or lengthy consumer IDs.
The other new features announced include prepaid utilities payment, which will offer users more flexibility in managing utility bills, and Tap & Pay with RuPay cards, enabling seamless tap-based payments using RuPay cards directly from the Google Pay app. Lastly, the Autopay for UPI Lite feature will provide users with an automated payment option, simplifying regular and recurring payments.
These new features reflect Google Pay’s commitment to enhancing user convenience and security in digital transactions, aligning with the growing adoption of digital payment solutions in India.
