Tether has partnered with the TON Foundation, launching $60 million of USDT on The Open Network (TON) blockchain as announced at the Token2049 event in Dubai, making TON the 11th largest blockchain out of 16 supproting Tether.
This collaboration also introduced the gold-pegged Tether Gold (XAUT) stablecoin on TON, with cross-border payments touted as free, instant, and as simple as sending a direct message on Telegram to its 900 million users.
Despite the new issuance on TON and other blockchains, the majority of Tether’s $109.8 billion supply remains on the Tron network, with Ethereum and Solana following as the second and third largest networks for Tether distribution, amidst efforts to mitigate high fees on the Ethereum network.
